Frequently asked questions

This is our first time! How does it work?

Welcome to the pack! We can’t wait to meet you. Before we book you in, we want to get to know you a little bit and give you the chance to get to know us too.

  1. Book a meet and greet.

  2. Plan a trial daycare or night away. This gives your pup a chance to adjust to being away, get used to our space, and gives us a chance to let you know how they did. If it feels good for everyone then,

  3. You’ll get access to our online platform and can make a request for future stays.

What’s the longest length of boarding I can book?

There isn’t one! It all just depends on the schedule. We’ve hosted pups for weeks, and even a month before. If you know you’d like a long stay please reach out early.

Do you ever take non-Dachshunds?

Typically, no. But in the past Kevin has approved a handful of exceptions to the roster — if you have a small dog and are wondering if they might be a good fit, please reach out for a meet and greet.

Where is the booking calendar? How can I see availability?

Because capacity really depends on the guests in the house (dachshund dynamics are an art, not a science, after all) we determine availability manually. Please reach out directly to request your dates as early as you can.

Do you have Pet First Aid + CPR? Insurance?

Yep and yep.

What’s the vibe at the house? Where do they sleep etc?

Since we’re a boutique lil’ operation we fold the sausages into our daily lives and give them the option to sleep in dog beds, on the sofa, in their own crates (if they prefer) and even in our bed if the occasion requires! In this way, we try to replicate the routine they have at home (within reason) to give them as much familiarity and comfort as possible. We give them a relatively structured day with play, rest, eating and adventures scheduled - but tailor all of this to each doggo’s individual needs.

How many guests do you usually have?

Again, totally depends. Right now, as a general rule, we don’t like to have more sausages than hands - so between the three of us, 6 is the magic number during the day. For sleepovers, we scale that back. And if we know there’s a pup who has very special needs or attention, we may take as few as one. It’s all a bit of art and a sausage wiggle dance - but we assess and adjust as best we can.

Can I come over and hang out with the sausages? Or hang around to help my little guy/gal settle?

Unfortunately, no. Having new people mill about inside tends to unsettle the group — but for our nervous first timers we will recommend you join us on a short pack walk around the block right before drop off to get the “first day” jitters out. Rest assured we will give you a tonne of updates, especially on their first day!

What should I bring with me?

Before your sausage’s first stay we’ll remind you what to bring. That includes:

  • Your pup’s crate (if you use one) and blanket. It’s nice for each pup to have "a room of one’s own” when they need it. Don’t worry, we won’t force your pup into a crate if that’s not something they were trained with;

  • Food (and instructions), including any special treats that you might use for dietary restrictions;

  • Leash and collar and/or harness.
